Always mid-book

Reading

I'm rarely reading just one thing. There's usually a design book on the nightstand — something on visual systems or product thinking — running alongside whatever novel a friend told me I had to read. They end up talking to each other more than you'd expect.

Design books get read with a pen nearby. Fiction gets read for the sake of it, no notes, just the story. Either way, if something sticks, it goes into my journal — a line I liked, an idea I want to steal, a question the book raised that I haven't answered yet.

I'll take a recommendation from almost anyone. Some of my favorite reads lately came from a five-minute conversation that turned into "wait, you have to read this."

A design book on service systems, and a novel I'm about two chapters into.
